SanGIS has completed all training and
all arrangements with the US Geological Survey (USGS) to take
on full stewardship of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD)
for San Diego County. The National Hydrography Dataset is the
surface water component of The National Map. The NHD
is a comprehensive set of digital spatial data representing
the surface water of the United States using common features
such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, canals, and oceans.
As steward for the NHD in San Diego County, SanGIS is the source
agency to make edits, updates, additions, and deletions. Change
requests, once validated, will be made on a local copy of the
NHD at SanGIS and uploaded on a periodic basis to USGS where
the revised dataset is validated before being posted to the
official NHD site.
Anyone can request edits and updates to the NHD for San Diego
County by contacting SanGIS. City of San Diego and County of
San Diego JPA partners are encouraged to use the SanGIS Forum
to record changes. Just go to http://sanweb.sangis.org/forum/.
Users that do not have a Forum logon can email their changes
to SanGIS via webmaster@sangis.org.
Or give us a call at 858-874-7000.
SanGIS looks forward to hearing from you on how to improve the
NHD in San Diego County.
The official source for NHD is the USGS' National Hydrography
Dataset Site. You can get the most current official data by
